Creating beautiful bridal flatlays is an art form that beautifully capture the essence of your wedding day. From delicate lace veils to sparkling jewelry, each element lends to your love story. Bridal flatlays not only serve as a stunning visual memento but also set the tone for the entire wedding celebration. They are a wonderful way to capture the essence and beauty of a bride’s special day in a single frame.
A bridal flatlay is a popular and artistic way to showcase all the essential elements of a bride’s big day in one beautifully styled photograph. It typically includes items such as the wedding shoes, jewelry, vow books, bouquet, the wedding invitation suite, and any other meaningful elements. The arrangement is carefully curated and thoughtfully composed to capture the theme and style of the wedding.
BRIDAL FLAYLAY ADVICE: We graciously encourage all of our Marie Violet Photography brides to request any trimmings from your florist to be included and delivered with your bouquets on your wedding day. These extra blooms and greenery add such a beautiful touch to your wedding day bridal flatlay imagery. Just make sure to kindly request these blooms well in advance to ensure that your florist can include them with your wedding day floral delivery.
We curated this wedding ring inspired flatlay for our bride Briana on her wedding day and styled this photo utilizing her floral trimmings. Creating this elevated bridal flatlay in such a beautiful way that highlighted the sophisicated and modern asethetic our bride desired.
WHAT SHOULD I INCLUDE WITH MY BRIDAL FLATLAYS?
When planning your bridal flatlays, consider including items that are meaningful to you and represent your personality and style. Start with your engagement ring, your wedding bands, along with any heirloom pieces that hold sentimental value to you. Add in elements that reflect your wedding theme or colour scheme, such as flowers, ribbons, or beautiful trinkets or heirlooms that lend to your wedding aesthetic or story.
We love when couples include a vintage ring box or add a sentimantal memorial photo locket to keep their loved ones close to them as they walk down the aisle.
Our beloved bride, Molly hired the incredibly talented creative director / stylist Kristin Shockley of Lustre Theory for her wedding day bridal flatlay styling and reception tablescape design. Kristin, arrived with a stunning array and assortment of beautiful collectibles and curated each flatlay for us to photograph.
I can’t begin to share how wonderful this experience was on the wedding day, as it allowed us to focus on the craft of documenting the day and allowed Kristin to be in her creative element and curate these beautiful bridal flatlays.
I highly encourage every bride and couple to consider this an essential wedding investment on your day and hire stylist to curate these incredible magazine worthy-editorial inspired bridal flatlays.
Consider also incorporating a family heirloom, beloved tray or serving dish for us to place and style your bridal details with.
Don’t forget to include your invitation suite, a special perfume bottle, and perhaps a photo of you and your partner. Feel free to incorporate unique touches like a love letter, a meaningful quote, or a special token that symbolises your love story.
WHEN DO YOU PHOTOGRAPH THE BRIDAL DETAILS?
Upon our arrival on your wedding day, we will begin photographing your bridal details and create your flatlays. We share with you in our Photograph inspired Timeline PDF all the pretty details too, so don’t worry, we have everything written down for you! But, let’s discuss them again!
Typically our couples will check into their bridal suite the evening before or you may arrive early on the morning of your wedding day, please arrange to have someone you trust to gather all of your bridal details and place them in one area for us to collect upon arriving.
Please also schedule your florals to arrive before we do to ensure we have plenty of time to photograph these items during the details portion of your wedding day photography.
Don’t forget to include your dress, (out of the bridal bag, steamed and hanging on your hanger) your veil, wedding shoes, perfume, rings, invitation suite, any additional stationary, vow books, jewelry, hair accessories, additional guest gift bags (to photograph to remember!) and any borrowed or blue, family heirlooms or extra sentimental items that are important to you and your partner.
Don’t forget that we also love to set time aside for your partner’s details and create their wedding flatlay too!
Once we arrive, we will begin to photograph your dress, veil, shoes and bouquet, and then photograph smaller details as well as the close-up macro ring photos, the invitation suite photo, the bouquet photo and a mix of other blended bridal flatlay photos.
For grooms, please include shoes, tie or bow-tie, cufflinks, cologne, belt, watch, and boutonnieres. Don’t forget to include his wedding ring or ring box also! We will photograph these items promptly and then return them to allow time for his getting ready photos to begin.
Most importantly, be creative and add whimsical, sentimental or romantic elements to your wedding day bridal flatlay details that speaks to who you are as a couple and enhances your wedding aesthetic. If your wedding inspiration is timeless and classic, at a museum or library, maybe including a few of your favourite vintage books. If your wedding is taking place at an Opera house, or conservatory, maybe adding sheet music of your wedding song might be a creative option. If your having a destination Lake Como wedding, adding lemons, olive oil or vintage postcards from the area might be a great touch to add to your bridal wedding flatlays.
What makes your beautiful bridal flatlay photos so lovely and unique is incorporating elements that are unconventional but add to your love story!
