A Beautiful Big Spring Farm Wedding | Lauren + Danielle

April 26, 2019

Lauren & Danielle

A lovely wedding in the mountains of Lexington Virginia

On a beautiful spring afternoon Lauren and Danielle planned an intimate romantic outdoor wedding ceremony on the grounds of the lovely Big Spring Farms property in Lexington, Virginia.  Lauren was all smiles on her wedding day, and couldn’t wait to marry the love of her life, Danielle.  At a nearby hotel, our bride Danielle was also getting ready and anxious to marry her soulmate, Lauren.

As a wedding photographer, there is nothing that makes my heart swoon with excitement more than beautiful wedding day details… especially sentimental and heirloom family pieces. Here are a few of the lovely ones that Lauren hand picked for her wedding day…

This hand carved table was the perfect backdrop to photograph Lauren’s wedding details, including this beautiful Victorian cameo pin. Including these decorative wedding day details is such an honor and a beautiful way to honor your heirloom pieces that both you and your family cherish.

We loved the intricate lace detail on Lauren’s wedding dress and she look positively beautiful…

We chose this beautiful area on the Big Spring Farms property for Lauren and Danielle’s “first look.” On the other side of the water’s edge was the lovely area that was chosen for their outdoor ceremony, we were so fortunate that the rain clouds held off for these incredible couples portraits. When weather is a factor it’s always a wise choice to have a “first look” to ensure that we have these romantic outdoor portraits on your wedding day. The beautiful natural light was heavenly! We loved Danielle’s joyful expression when she first laid eyes on her beautiful bride to be, Lauren.  Also, her custom ivory white suit looked beautiful on her!  These are always my favorite moments to capture on a wedding day.  Documenting the emotion of the moment, the profound joy and happiness makes my heart so happy.

(I know that I say it all the time, but I absolutely love being a wedding photographer! )

The rains started luckily just as we were finishing up with our couples photos, and we all quickly ran indoors seeking refuge. While waiting for the rain to end, we all gathered at the main house and took advantage of their beautiful front porch for a few bridal party photos.  The soft natural light was absolutely lovely and beautiful for wedding photos.

This property is just so breathtaking, here is one of the few photos of the original ceremony photos that we were lucky to capture before the rains…

Watching the rainfall…

The downpour….

It’s always a great idea, (especially for weddings in Virginia!) to have a Plan”B” indoor location as backup when Mother Nature decides to rain on your wedding celebration. With every hand available, we grabbed chairs and transformed the reception barn as the ceremony location. The ladies of Soirees by Lauren were incredible to work with and their expertise truly shined when we had to make the hard decisions. Having a wedding planner on your big day is so essential and I’m so thankful we had them with us on Lauren and Danielle’s wedding day!

After the rain, the mist rolled over the mountains…

Just waiting on last minute guests and the ceremony is about to begin…

Lauren and Danielle are officially married!

This was one of the sweetest and most beautiful wedding ceremonies that we’ve had the privilege to photograph.  Moments after the wedding vows, our couple is greeted with their parents and bridal party. Celebratory hugs and kisses and congratulations are given to our sweet couple. These sweet moments are just a joy to photograph!

Big Spring Farms is such a unique and tranquil property and it’s visually beautiful from all sides. We loved the lush greenery that the trees provided and provided the soft glow of light. Our brides planned their ceremony near the pond under the umbrella the canopy of the trees and within an hour or so of the ceremony time, the rains began to pour…  They say that rain on a wedding day brings good luck to the couple, and I deeply believe that to be true… with the quick and talented team of Soirees by Lauren they transformed the barn into the new ceremony space…  There was no amount of rain that was going to dampen the spirits of our sweet couple and when the rains stopped just briefly, we quickly brought Lauren and Danielle to their original ceremony location and captured some tender moments now they officially married.

The wedding reception was a beautiful and sweet affair (pun intended!) with all these incredible sweet treats that were created for their wedding celebration. Decadent cupcakes, a sweet handmade cake and individual lollipops were on hand for the guests to enjoy and indulge in! As the rains continued to pour down around us, the guests returned indoors and the reception began with a sweet first dance for the couple, followed by parent dances and then the sweetest and funniest toasts by Lauren’s father, sister and the bridal party… there wasn’t a dry eye left… the toasts were absolutely hysterical and so heartfelt. Lauren’s father shared many sweet stories of Lauren growing up and ended his toast with how proud of a Father he is to have such an amazing and beautiful daughter. He welcomed Danielle officially into the family and loved the idea of adding a daughter to his family… (I couldn’t help but tear up too… it was the sweetest toast a father could give to his daughter… and it makes me think of my husband and our daughter, Milana!)  The warm wood tones of the Big Spring Farms barn created such an intimate and lovely atmosphere for Lauren and Danielle’s wedding celebration. As the guests mingled and dined on their delicious meals, many of the children enjoyed the photo booth we provided. These are always a great hit for children and adults alike!

Danielle and Lauren were surrounded by their beloved family and friends on their most beautiful day. Despite the rain and the last minute change of plans for our ceremony location, this wedding day unfolded perfectly.

The beautiful scenery of Big Spring Farms, nestled in the Lexington,Virginia mountain scape was the stunning backdrop for Danielle and Lauren to recite their intimate vows and promises of love eternal.  Their beloved guests took in the breathtaking views, a majestic bonfire and danced the night away.

We loved photographing Danielle and Lauren’s wedding day for so many reasons, firstly, I just absolutely fell in love with them both, they have such a sweet disposition together and they’re truly a couple that bring out the best in each other. They’re a couple you just want to be around. the energy and laughter is contagious.  Secondly, we adore beautiful outdoor mountain weddings, and after photographing several Lexington Virginia weddings, we just fell in love with the area. Lexington Virginia is simply beautiful and majestic and I love to photograph weddings there! The Big Spring Farms wedding venue is absolutely one of my favorites, the beauty of the property is so enchanting and majestic. It possesses a calmness that is just such a welcoming and inviting space that of course you want to hold a celebration or a wedding there… it’s just beautiful. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we will be back again soon to photograph another beautiful couples wedding day!

A big thank you to the amazing vendor team that helped create the magic on Danielle and Lauren’s wedding day, it truly takes a village.
