Katie and Connor’s beautiful engagement session at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. was nothing short of magical. Surrounded by the towering spires and intricate architecture of the church, the couple chose to capture their love in the Bishop’s Garden, a place that held a special place in Katie’s heart. As a child, she spent countless afternoons playing in the garden with her family after Sunday mass, and now, as a bride-to-be, she returned with her fiancĂ©.
Maisie, the couple’s sweet puppy, was the star of the photography session, and it was easy to see why. Dressed in a gorgeous flower collar, she looked like she belonged in the garden, surrounded by the vibrant colors and fragrant blooms. She was on her best behavior throughout the shoot, her tail wagging happily as she posed for the camera.
As Katie and Connor explored the Bishop’s Garden, they were surrounded by the beauty of the blooming roses and other flowers. The colors were so vibrant that they seemed to come alive, creating a picturesque backdrop for the couple’s engagement photos.
Walking hand in hand, Katie and Connor savored the moment, taking in the sights and sounds of the gardens and the memories they were creating. I can see why Katie has such fond memories of this place and why she would want to return to have their engagement photos at such a beautiful and sentimental location. The National Cathedral and Bishop’s Gardens are now one of my favorite engagment session locations in Washington D.C. Nothing can compare to the beautiful and tranquil setting this backdrop offers.
From the lush greenery of Bishop’s Garden to the grandeur of the National Cathedral, every location was carefully chosen to create an aesthetic that was both refined and effortless. As we began the shoot, it was clear that Katie and Connor’s chemistry was undeniable. They moved together with ease and grace, and their deep love for each other was reflected in every shot.
Katie and Connor were the loveliest couple who wanted their engagement photos to be more than just pretty photos. They had a vision for an editorial and fine art aesthetic that was both refined and effortless, yet still captured the joy and romance of their relationship. When speaking with Katie during our initinal wedding consultation, she had expressed that our fine art and editorial style of photogrpahy is what intinally drew her to want to work with us at Marie Violet Photography. To achieve this, we explored the beautiful grounds of Bishop’s Garden, taking advantage of the lush greenery and stunning architecture to create some truly stunning photos.
After the initial shoot was complete, we took a break to allow Katie and Connor to change into their second look. Then, we returned to the National Cathedral where we continued the shoot, capturing some more intimate moments between the couple. The Cathedral provided the perfect backdrop for these photos, with its grandeur and beauty adding an extra layer of depth to the images.
To celebrate their beautiful engagement photos taking place, they also brought with them their favorite bottle of champagne and toasted to this incredible time in their lives together.
When we returned to the National Cathedral for the second part of the shoot, and it was the perfect backdrop for the more intimate moments we wanted to capture. Every shot was carefully composed to showcase the beauty of the couple and the stunning architecture of the Cathedral.
As we worked together, it was clear that these moments were some of the most tender and beautiful of the entire shoot.
In the end, the photos captured the essence of Katie and Connor’s love story. Every image was a testament to the joy and romance they share, and the editorial and fine art aesthetic they desired. We were honored to have been a part of this special moment in their lives, and we wish them all the happiness in the world as they begin their lives together.
Stay tuned as we will be sharing their gorgeous wedding day photos from the beautiful and historic venue, The Airlie next week!
